Moto Mod modules are quite interesting, and the first modules released last year are just the beginning for this segment.
Motorola's Moto Mod modules are very promising, as they can turn your phone into various other gadgets, such as a video projector, a camera, or a portable speaker. The company promotes these products quite a bit, even having hackathon events where participants were encouraged to produce such modules.
At a small event in Ghana, West Africa, Motorola unveiled several new modules, including a 360-degree camera, two Marshall audio modules and a DirecTv mode, which appears to have an HDMI connector such as a Chromecast. The company also unveiled a DSLR module, as well as an action camera module, similar to a GoPro.
Moto Mod modules connect to the phone extremely easily, with the help of magnets on both the phone and the modules, without cables or other accessories. Once connected, the phone instantly recognizes the connected module, and then you can use it to listen to music, watch a movie, or take quality pictures.
Regarding the new modules unveiled, Motorola did not comment on their availability or pricing. Most likely, at this point, the modules unveiled at the Ghana event are still in a conceptual stage. The only physical module available at the time was the 360-degree camera module.
It remains to be seen how long we will have the new Motorola modules. The first ones I tested were quite interesting, especially the Hasselblad camera module, which did its job extremely well.
