Samsung's investigation related to the problems of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone has ended, and the Korean manufacturer presented the conclusions in a press conference with an expected conclusion.
Although in the last few days there has been more information about the Samsung investigation, this is the first and only official report. As expected, the conclusion of the investigation shows that faulty batteries were responsible for the explosion of the phones in both batches.
In the case of the initial models, which arrived first on the market, it was found that the negative electrode was curved in the upper right corner of the battery and that its tip reached a curved area where there was nothing to look for. These manufacturing defects caused a short circuit.
The batteries of the telephones that had the role of replacement and that exploded in their turn suffered because of the faulty welding that broke the insulation in the positive electrode area. In addition, as an aggravating factor, some batteries were completely devoid of insulating tape.
Following these technical remarks, Samsung concluded, 5 months after the first incidents, what we suspected from the very beginning: that the fault is the defective batteries and the haste of the production process.
The Samsung investigation was done with the help of three companies specialized in such problems. In total, 700 people were involved who studied 200,000 phones and 30,000 additional batteries.
