Android phones are again in the spotlight, after a malware infection that has already affected no less than 10 million smartphones has been discovered. The name of the virus is Griffthorse.
A record number of Android smartphones are in a very difficult situation, and most users do not even realize that their sensitive data is vulnerable overnight.Griffthorse again illustrates how easy hackers are compromised the terminals running Google's operating system. It does not help the fact that most of the market devices are deprived of security updates.
Your Android phone, in danger
This time, the Zimperium Security Company discovered a malware that seems as dangerous as possible and entitled Grifthorse.According to cyber security experts, over 10 million Android phones have already been infected, and many of them are in Romania.
The new infection seems to have been discovered in the early phase in November 2020, about a year ago.Meanwhile, it has propagated on the devices through infected applications that users have installed from both third-party stores and Google Play Store.Unfortunately, not even those who are used to downloading their mobile applications only from the Mountain View giant are lacking in any danger.
As a reference, the users who get infected are waking up on the phone screens, without any intervention on their part, with a bushy series of aggressive notifications, "offers" of non -refusal and promises of prizes at competitions that they did not participate in.
Those who make mistakes to access the messages or notifications, reach a site that, apparently, require their contact details (including the phone number) to receive the winnings. In fact, they are registered for SMS premium services, where they get to pay up to 30 euros per month.According to experts, so far, Grifthorse has been reflected in earnings between 1.2 and 3.5 million euros per month for rear hackers.
