October 19 marked an important moment this year, especially for Google. The company officially announced the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, which have the first custom processor developed by the giant - Tensor. Along with this chipset, new features developed specifically for it have also been introduced. We learn today that the big G is now working on porting these options to older Pixel phones as well. We have details below.
The information comes via Android Authority, with Google telling the publication that it is set to bring new features to older Pixel smartphones. Among these new options we will also find Astrophotography, a capture mode that was previously available on Pixel phones, but was later removed by Google. However, the company would be bringing other options to these smartphones as well. We are talking about Cinematic Pan or Call Screening, for example.
However, these new features will be limited by the old hardware, being developed specifically for the proprietary Tensor CPU available only on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. According to Google, there will thus be some limitations. The Live Translate and Motion Mode functions will also arrive, although their development for Snapdragon processors would be quite difficult.
Even though Google has confirmed that these features will arrive on older Pixel phones, we don't yet know when that will happen. The company is set to announce further updates in the future, most likely in the first quarter of 2022. Also, even if the big G is keen to bring as many options as possible to older models, some of them may not work, being developed specifically for the Tensor CPU.
