When it comes to video games, most of them fall into easy-to-define categories. Others, no. The impending Tribes of Midgard fall into the second category.
A kind of cooperative RPG that you can experience on your own, Tribes of Midgard is a new game from Geoff Keighley. Originally unveiled at the Summer Game Fest on June 10, it promises to be a memorable title in many ways.
It is inspired by Norse mythology, and if you take a look at the clip above, this detail is obvious from the first moments. Like most games released lately, it can be experimented with up to 10 friends, but no one stops you from testing it on your own. But the gameplay is unusual, as it combines features from Don`t Starve Together and the classic Diablo.
To make boredom absolutely impossible, most of the universe you explore and face is procedurally generated with the help of artificial intelligence. The aim is to feel the northern peculiarities, and this detail is obvious at every step.
Tribes of Midgard is created by Norsfell Studios, and the CEO is very proud of the new title. "It's a whole new genre. This was the starting point for what we wanted to do, take some genres and bring them together to provide an experience that is as accessible as possible, ”said Julian Maroda.
One of the innovative features of the Tribes of Midgard is the way in which death and survival are treated. The object of the game is to protect a mystical tree called Seed of Yggdrasil from the center of your village and feed it with "soul seeds". If the tree dies, Ragnaork is triggered, and the game is over.
The new game launches on July 27 on PlayStation 4, PS5 and PC. It costs $ 20 for the standard version or $ 30 for a deluxe iteration with a few cosmetic enhancements.
