I've been using the A52s for two weeks and I can say that it's an interesting phone that doesn't disappoint and seems aimed at younger people, especially because of the attractive colors. So let's see what's up with it and start with the design.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G design
If there is one aspect that I find very attractive about this phone, it is the design. The line chosen by Samsung for the A Series is very clean, youthful, stands out without being too flashy.
The screen is surrounded by relatively thin bezels on all sides and a punchhole front camera. On the edges we have chrome metal with a turquoise tint where the buttons are, and on the back we had a color called Awesome Mint. It's a very light green, very nice and matte. I like this approach with a matte back that feels quality and doesn't have a lot of fingerprints. The camera module is also discreetly surrounded by the same color and looks much smaller than on other phones. The fact that there is a chromatic unity makes it stand out.
The terminal has 189 grams, it is a bit heavier than others on the market, but this seems to me an advantage. You have a headphone jack and a USB-C charging port, and it's resistant to drops, water and dust.
More than 70% of Romanian companies have adopted hybrid work after 2 years of...The phone also has black, pearl white or purple versions. All colors are aimed at those under 30 or those who want a bit of color when it comes to their terminal. It's one of those gadgets that I wouldn't put a case on. Firstly because the plastic back is matte and you can't see the scratches on it, secondly because any cover would make it uglier.
Bonus points from me for the design. Now let's move on to the technical performance of the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G.
Technical performance
The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 5G processor that we also see on Huawei Nova 9 and realme GT Master, a powerful processor for this category, which allows gaming, browsing and 5G navigation very good.
The RAM memory on the tested variant is 6 GB, and the storage capacity is 128 GB, with the possibility of expansion via a microSDXC card in the SIM slot. The battery is 4,500 milliamps and has fast charging at 25 watts.
Seedblink launches new features and secondary market pilotWhen it comes to the screen, it has 6.5 inches, it's Super AMOLED, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and an excellent brightness of 800 nits. The resolution is 2400 x 1080 pixels and has a 20 by 9 orientation.
How does this terminal behave in everyday life? First of all, you have nothing to complain about the processor. I browsed on 5G without problems, used chat and media applications, and played games to be able to test it. I didn't find it to lag, it doesn't hang between apps and it works very well, and the quality of the 5G connection was very good.
For gamers, Samsung has an optimization called Game Booster that controls the RAM used, eliminates battery saver and also controls the temperature. Everything is optimized around the game, including the Frame Booster function that provides smoother image movement.
The element that I personally liked the most was the screen. It has good resolution, exceptional brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate that changes the way apps, menus and games move. It's a quality screen, feels good to the touch and works great in all contexts.
The 4,500 milliamp battery provides a day, a day and a half of autonomy, depending on how you use it. My tendency on 5G devices is to keep them on mobile data only, so they easily go towards a day . Not a stunning performance, but not a bad one either. In terms of charging, fast charging allows charging up to 100% in approximately 2 hours.
Technical performances are in order and suitable for its price level. But for a mid-range phone, the camera has become an important competitive advantage. Let's see what we find here on the back, but also what the Android 11 operating system brings to the A52s.
Cameras and operating system
The camera module is a very good one, with a quad camera on the back. There is a 64-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 5-megapixel depth camera and a 5-megapixel macro camera.
At the level of image quality, when we have the right light, the images come out of quality, both from the main camera and the portrait ones. You have optical image stabilization and although in low light you don't have the weakest pictures, don't expect flagship performance. But I find it one of the clearest and most consistent phones when it comes to cameras.
For video Samsung has software enhancements that make images Super Steady. Also, in the portrait function, the A52s does a great job and you can remove the background blur directly when you take the pictures.
The front camera is 32 megapixels and allows a quality bokeh and fairly clear images for selfie enthusiasts.
At the level of the operating system, we have Android 11 with the One UI 3.1 interface from Samsung. I'm among those who appreciate this interface and I find it quite easy to use and understand, the themes are clean, but what really bothers me about Samsung is that it insists on installing a lot of bloatware applications from the start. Which may or may not be of use to you.
The moment you open the phone you have at least 9 applications from Samsung, including their store where you can download them. And I wish most of them I could install myself later if I wanted to, because otherwise I don't use them. The applications are the classic ones of AR, of connecting to fitness devices, of switching between terminals.
Before the pros and cons, let's see how much this Samsung costs and what other phones you have available on the market in this segment.
Price and availability
At the moment the phone comes in two variants in Romania on the official Samsung website. The 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM version now costs 1,500 lei on the Samsung website, reduced from 2,200 lei. The original price seems extremely high to me, but it will always be reduced or in subscription offers. For 1,700 lei you can buy the version with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM, but that just seems a bit too much to me. I've never felt the need for 256GB of storage on a phone, and the RAM difference won't be felt that strongly.
On the market you have several options in this price and features area. I won't say that one is better than the other, it's simply a brand preference. For example, you can go for the Poco X3, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro or, why not, the OnePlus Nord 2, if you find it at an ok discount.
With the same processor you also have the Huawei Nova 9 on the market, an excellent phone when it comes to photos and videos, and if you are used to using the Huawei Services ecosystem, then it won't be a problem for you. An alternative version with the same processor would be the Realme GT Master Edition, but there we are talking about a more geeky phone.
So let's see the pros and cons in brief.
Pros
Cons
So let's draw a conclusion. Samsung does not produce the cheapest terminals on the market, they have never fought for this. You will find all kinds of alternatives with a slightly better cost. But it depends what you want.
If you are a geek who wants a reasonably priced phone then there are options like OnePlus, Poco, realme. If you want a phone that looks good, matches the color of your outfits and you're not afraid to have gadgets in the color of mint ice cream, then the A52s is very cool.
