MediaTek is on a roll now at the end of the year and after the release of the first 4nm smartphone processor (Dimensity 9000), it comes with a new first - the release of the first 7nm processor for 8K TVs. This is called MediaTek Pentonic 2000 and it is not the first nor the last processor of the company intended for use on televisions, recently we also tested the Xiaomi Mi TV P1 with a MediaTek chipset on board, which is true not one at the level of the newly revealed one today.
Pentonic 2000 is, as we said above, a processor developed on TSMC's 7nm process. It supports 8K 120Hz displays, and even supports a 144Hz refresh rate once a gaming PC or next-generation console is connected. It is also the first processor with an 8K 120Hz MEMC "engine" and gives us the ability to upscaling.
This is possible thanks to the 8K AI-Super Resolution technology and related to the Pentonic 2000 we also learn that this is also the first commercial processor to support Versatile Video Coding (VVC) H.266 content. We also have AV1 support for streaming services and global TV broadcast standards, including the latest ATSC 3.0 standard.
We also tick UFS 3.1 storage and WiFi 6E support. The first TVs with this processor are expected on the global market next year.
