The first film produced in space; Russian actress Iulia Peresild is aboard the International Space Station

Russian actress Iulia Peresild has arrived aboard the International Space Station (ISS), where she will shoot "The Challenge", the first feature film produced in space.

“Everything was so new to us today, every 30 seconds there was something completely new. We just met the rest of the crew, the cosmonauts and astronauts who have been living aboard the station for some time. I still feel like I'm in a dream," said actress Iulia Peresild in a conference with journalists.

Director Klim Shipenko, who joined the actress aboard the ISS, was also overwhelmed by the experience, according to Futurism.

"It was incredible. It was hard but great to get aboard the station. We were greeted by friends", said the director.

The journey to the ISS was bumpy

Their journey to the ISS, aboard the Soyuz spacecraft, was not without mishaps. Due to some software and communication problems, commander and veteran astronaut Anton Shkaplerov had to manually take control during the docking maneuvers at the space station, writes descopera.ro.

The crew will spend just over a week aboard the space station to shoot scenes for the feature film. According to Russian television channel Primul Kanal, the film will include around 35 to 40 minutes of footage shot aboard the ISS.

What will the film produced aboard the International Space Station be about?

The film "The Challenge" is meant to help the popularity of Russia's space program, as it is about a surgeon who travels to the space station to save the life of a cosmonaut.

“The work would have been enormous even on Earth. We will have 10 days at our disposal. But we won't do 10 normal filming days of 12 hours each, but rather two or three hours a day, when the cosmonauts will also work with us. Otherwise, Klim and I will shoot frames with only me," added the actress from Russia.
