This week has been a productive one for Microsoft. In addition to the new products in the Surface range, the company also unveiled the second generation of the Surface Duo foldable smartphone. It's christened very suggestive - Surface Duo 2 - and comes with substantial improvements in terms of cameras, processor and smart features.
The device consists of two 5.8-inch OLED displays, each with a resolution of 1344 x 1892. Microsoft's approach to foldable screens is slightly different. Unlike manufacturers like Samsung, which juggles a single foldable main screen, Microsoft opts for two panels attached to a pivot. The design allows the Surface Duo 2 to be open like a book or to be supported in a tent style.
Fully open, the two screens (each at 90Hz) have a total diagonal of 8.3 inches, and are also protected by glass from Corning. An interesting addition is related to a small curvature of the screens, so that users can see the time and notifications received even when the Surface Duo 2 is closed.
Compared to its predecessor, the Duo 2 is based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor. In combination with the slim design, Microsoft mentions that it offers us the thinnest 5G compatible terminal on the market. The new iteration has 8GB of RAM, with storage from 128GB to 512GB and NFC function, which the first Duo lacked.
The camera module includes three lenses: a 16MP ultra-wide, a 12MP wide and a 12MP telephoto, the latter two benefiting from optical stabilization (OIS).
The design of the Surface Duo 2 makes you think you're playing on a Nintendo 3DS
Or some weird Pokedex. Rather intended for multitasking and efficient work, Surface Duo 2 is compatible with the new Slim Pen 2, which can be attached magnetically, and the two screens can be customized to meet your needs.
Whether you're organizing your windows and documents, or setting up a game control scheme on the bottom screen and displaying the game on the top screen, you can see from the plane that the Surface Duo 2 is essentially just a pair of smartphones connected to each other. another. And not necessarily in a bad way. What's more, when you play, it looks exactly like a 3DS.
Speaking of games, Microsoft has used this idea of splitting the control scheme to provide optimizations to a rich list of titles. At the moment, Surface Duo 2 can run games like Asphalt Legends 9, Modern Combat 5, Dungeon Hunter 5 and 147 more efficiently.
Microsoft has promised to strengthen the stability and functionality of the software on the new phone, learning from previous mistakes. As for the price, the Duo 2 is around $ 1,500, and has been available since October 21st. In addition, the phone would come directly with Android 11.
