How important it is to use a good router for Wi-Fi on iPhone and iPad

Recently my old router breathed its last last week and although it was able to carry 500 Mbps via RDS without problems with a computer, on the Wi-Fi connectivity side it did not offer more than 50 Mbps for iPhone or iPad, and when multiple terminals connected to the network, the speed dropped considerably.

IOS updates were hard to download, apps from the App Store had the same fate and every time I blamed Apple's servers because, in theory, a 30-40 Mbps connection should give you a good speed content download, regardless of where you get it.

Changing the router

Changing the router with a more efficient one and switching to the 5 GHz frequency, I noticed that things have changed radically, that is, everything downloads much faster, even browsing on the internet is much faster, and that's because of the much better connectivity.

From 50 Mbps we went to 300 Mbps, theoretically, and the speed increase is great, exactly as the theoretical numbers suggest, the applications downloading almost instantly from the App Store, if they are up to 100 MB in size, the updates software downloading almost as fast, although they are larger.

How important is using a router good for Wi-Fi on iPhone and iPad

As an example of this change, I will tell you that I downloaded the game Real Racing 3, which is 1.17 GB, on the iPhone 6S Plus in 80 seconds, the average download speed being 14 MB/s or a little over 110 Mbps, this in conditions where with the old router the download took 5 minutes or more.

To be completely honest with you, I didn't think that changing the router could affect download speeds from the App Store so much, but I expected that there would be a difference in the rest, and the problem with the App Store or the iCloud servers is telling because many people complain that it is difficult to download from them.

As far as streaming is concerned, imagine that you can enjoy a much better quality of streams via Wi-Fi on iPhone or iPad, and if you synchronize Wi-Fi with iTunes between the terminal and the computer, well, the data synchronization time will decrease considerably.

What I use

I use a TP-LINK Archer C8 AC1750 router, but you can use any quality router that offers connections on the 5 GHz frequency and supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, the connection of the basis from the ISP being also extremely important in this situation.

Many of you have surely realized for some time what I have explained so far and I was aware of all this in the past, but I was not interested in changing the router without a serious reason, which came naturally.

Unfortunately, a lot of people do not know how big the difference can be in the performance of using the Internet on the iPhone between a weak router and a decent one.
